Amy Mickelson, Phil Mickelson’s wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer which prompted him to withdraw from both the local tournaments and PGA Tour. Phil currently ranks world no. 2 in Golf. This tragedy makes Phil very unclear about his future as a golf player at least for now as he has pulled out of all the tournaments with immediate effect.
Amy came to know about her cancer after undergoing “an extensive battery of tests,” and is also slated for an immediate surgery in the next two weeks. As Colonial tournament director Peter Ripa says,With cancer, it’s not something to be taken lightly. You stop everything you’re doing and take care of it. He needs to be at home with his family. This really puts everything into perspective about how fragile life is, especially when it happens to someone close to you.”
Amy and Phil have 3 children aged 9, 7, 6. This nor the first time that the tragedy struck the family. In 2003 when their son Evan was born there were many complications during his birth which made mother and the son almost loose their life. Evan was not breathing and Amy suffered a major tear near her uterus and was fast loosing her blood. But fortunately Doctors were called and a major surgery saved Amy’s life and her son also started breathing after 7 minutes of birth. So Mickelson family is not new to tragedies so i am sure they will also get through this phase successfully and happily as they did in the past. Enjoy pictures of Mickelson family after the jump.
