Mary Travers Death

Mary_travers_John_Singing

Mary Travers who alongwith Paul Stookey and Peter Yarrow became famous for performing some of America’s most beautiful folk anthems and were famously called Peter, Paul and Mary, died at the age of 72. Mary died after the complications arise from leukemia, at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut today. She had already gone under bone marrow transplant earlier, however after some time her condition became critical and was completely bed-ridden.

As Rolling Stone Magazine Puts it:-

Travers was born in Kentucky but attended high school in New York’s West Village, where her family lived in the same building as folk icon Pete Seeger. She became a disciple of the Weavers and performed with Seeger before Yarrow and his manager Albert Grossman (who later steered Bob Dylan’s career) recruited her for the trio. After seven months of rehearsals, the group made its debut in 1961 performing songs carefully arranged by Milk Okun. Their self-titled debut came out the following year and boasted the Grammy-winning “If I Had a Hammer,” as well as “Lemon Tree” and Seeger’s “Where Have All the Flowers Gone.” They hit Number One with “Leaving on Jet Plane” from 1967’s Album 1700, but made a large impact off the charts as leading voices of protest.

Almost people from all the age groups loved melodious songs of Mary and company as they were simple and easy to understand. Her magical song Puff the Magic Dragon was especially famous among kids and adults alike. Mary Travers is dead and this news shocked everyone who really loved music, however that’s a circle of life. And it always stops somewhere. God Bless Mary Travers.
